Characteristics:<\/span><\/p>\n

Amberstripe scad (Muroaji) is distributed in southern Japan and the East China Sea. Body length is 25~45 cm. Its body height is lower than that of Horse mackerel (Maaji). Its cross section is rounded, tubular and elongated. The caudal fin is yellow on the upper lobe and light gray on the lower lobe. Its body color is blue-green dorsally and silvery-white ventrally. They are found in schools somewhat offshore.<\/span><\/p>\n

Muroaji has more dark red meat (Chiai) than Maaji and also has less fat. It tends to lose its freshness easily, and most of it is used to make dried or paste products. In Toyama and other areas, it is commonly served as nigiri sushi.<\/span><\/p>\n
