Characteristics:<\/span><\/p>\n

Striped boarfish (Tengudai) is distributed in central Honshu and southwards, Ogasawara Islands, Hawaiian Islands, Lord Howe Island, and northern New Zealand. It inhabits reef areas at depths of 40~250m. The body length is about 30~55 cm. Its body is laterally flattened and its height is high. The body color of juveniles is gray with black spots, turning yellowish brown as adults, with six broad transverse bands on the sides of the body.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tengudai are thin-fleshed but quite tasty with a sweet taste of fat. Its season is from fall to winter. It is a fine white fish and is used for sashimi, sushi, and soup. It does not become firm when heated, making it suitable for saut\u00e9ing or simmering.<\/span><\/p>\n
