Characteristics:<\/span><\/p>\n

Japanese grenadier (T\u00f4jin) is distributed south of central Honshu on the Pacific side. It is distributed on the upper continental shelf slope at depths of 300~1000m. The body length is 40~60 cm. Its body shape is elongated and tapers toward the tail, which is cordate at the tip. The body color is dark brown. The main production areas are from Suruga Bay to the Kumano-nada Sea area and Kochi Prefecture.<\/span><\/p>\n

T\u00f4jin is not often caught, so it is distributed only around the area of production. It is mainly used to make kamaboko, chikuwa, and other fish paste products. It is also fried, simmered, vinegared tempura, and made into miso soup. In Numazu City, one can enjoy sashimi and nigiri sushi made of t\u00f4jin, which is very rare. The local name is Gebou.<\/span><\/p>\n
