Characteristics:

European angler (Nishiankou) is distributed in the Mediterranean, Black Sea and eastern North Atlantic. It inhabits sandy muddy areas from the coast to a depth of 1,000 m. It is 1 m long and can reach a maximum of 2 m.

Incidentally, its skin coloration differs from that of Anglerfish (Ankou) and Yellow goosefish (Kiankou).

Nishiankou are imported frozen from Europe. Its taste is paler than that of Cod, and it is often eaten in Europe because it goes well with all dishes.

The related species Blackbellied angler is often caught alongside it, but the European angler is the more abundant of the two.
