Conveyor belt sushi

Also called kaiten sushi. This is an inexpensive sushi restaurant where sushi is placed on plates, which are placed on a conveyor belt installed in front of the customer seats. The shop is mostly self-service and patrons take whichever sushi they like off the belt to eat. The color of the plates represents different levels of prices and there are some major chains where all plates are priced at JPY 100 each. You can even make other orders using touch-panel screens. The menus extend beyond sushi with rice bowls and even desserts traveling around on the conveyor belt. It’s a strange site the first time you walk in. Due to the recent sushi boom, conveyor belt sushi has even become commonplace other places in the world.
