Characteristics:

Goldlined seabream (Hedai) is distributed along the Japanese coast south of central Honshu Australia and the Indian Ocean. Its total length is about 40 cm.

Hedai resembles Blackhead seabream (Kurodai). Its body color is silvery white with a pale ventral side and more than a dozen longitudinal yellow stripes on the body. It lives mainly in reef areas, sometimes entering inner bays.

It lives slightly offshore, so it is less fishy than Kurodai and has a better taste. Once the skin is removed, there is no difference in appearance, taste, or flavor between Hedai and Red seabream (Madai).
