Characteristics:

Dogtooth tuna (Isomaguro) is distributed along the coasts of southern Japan and the Indo-West Pacific region. It is an offshore epipelagic species, migrating alone or in small groups around the reefs and coral reefs around the islands. The body length is 1.5 m. It can reach a maximum of 2 m. It is spindle-shaped. Body shape is spindle-shaped with a long, slender caudal peduncle. Its jaws are lined with sharp teeth.

Its flesh is lean, watery, and somewhat fishy. Although it has the word “tuna” in its name, it is a fish of a different genus from tuna. Where it is caught, it is marinated in soy sauce and made into Nigiri sushi, or fried.
