Characteristics:

Pacific Ocean perch (Arasukamenuke) is distributed north of Miyagi Prefecture, the Bering Sea, and southern California. Its body length is about 50 cm. It inhabits the seafloor at depths of 55~640m. One of its distinguishing features is its lower jaw protruding forward. It is caught in large quantities in the Bering Sea, near the Aleutian Islands, and in the Gulf of Alaska, and large quantities of frozen fish with the head and entrails removed are imported to Japan. It is rarely caught in Japan anymore.

Arasukamenuke was the first fish distributed in Japan as Akauo. It is a white fish without any peculiarities and is suitable for grilling or simmering. It is also sometimes sold under the name Akoudai when marinated in miso or sake lees.
