Characteristics:

Scorpionfish (Izukasago) is distributed south of the Boso Peninsula and in the East China Sea. It inhabits sandy muddy bottoms at depths of 80~200m. The body length is 15~30 cm. It reaches a maximum of 40 cm. Its body color is quite orange and quite spectacular in appearance. Only three species of the Fusakasago family are generally distributed for food: Izukasago, Oniokoze (Devil stinger), and Fusakasago (Fire fish).

Another name for Izukasago is Oniokoze. The original Oniokoze can be described as duller in color. Izukasago, when fresh, is made into sashimi. Izukasago is also suitable for simmered, salted, fried, and chirinabe.
