Characteristics:

Brassy trevally (Onihiraaji) is widely distributed from Wakayama Prefecture to the Ryukyu and Ogasawara Islands, and throughout the tropical and subtropical seas of the Indian Ocean, Western Pacific, South Africa, Southeast Asia, etc. It is particularly similar to Giant trevally (Rouninaji), but this species can be distinguished by its lower body height. It is characterized by its silvery body color with some black spots. It reaches 80 cm in total length. Onihiraaji is a popular fishing target along with Rouninaji and Kasumiaji.

Onihiraaji is a very rare fish that is rarely found in general markets. It is rare in the Kanto region, of course, but is also rarely seen in markets in Okinawa and Kagoshima. Its flesh is not too distinct and is moderately fatty, so it is eaten as sashimi, carpaccio, grilled, or fried.
