Characteristics:

Common pike conger (Suzuhamo) is widely distributed in the Seto Inland Sea, southern East China Sea, and Indo-West Pacific waters. Its body color is dark brown, but its ventral side is pale and the margins of its fins are black.

Similar to Daggertooth pike conger (Hamo) in both ecology and appearance, but distinguished from Suzuhamo by the number of lateral line holes in front of the anus. Its total length reaches 2 m.

Suzuhamo is as prized as Hamo, especially in the Kansai region, and although it lacks the fat and flavor of Hamo, it is suitable for nigiri sushi, kabayaki, tempura, etc. It is also used as an ingredient in fish paste. Hamo is more expensive than Suzuhamo.
