Characteristics:

Pearl-spot chromis (Suzumedai) is distributed south of Chiba Prefecture on the Pacific Ocean side, south of Akita Prefecture on the Sea of Japan side, and in warm waters such as the East China Sea. It inhabits the middle to lower strata of nearshore reefs in schools. The body length is 10~13 cm. The body resembles that of Red seabream (Tai) and is laterally flattened. Its body color is uniform blackish brown with white spots on its dorsal fin.

Suzumedai are mostly dried in salt. Fresh ones are grilled, simmered, or deep-fried. When eating Suzumedai, it is important to note that it has many small bones.
