Characteristics:

Blackspot tuskfish (Shirokurabera) are distributed south of Okinawa and in the western Pacific Ocean. It lives around coral reefs. It is 40~50 meters long and can reach a maximum length of 1 meter. It is one of the largest wrasse species. Its body is oblong and laterally flattened. The body color is dark blue, and the ventral surface is pale.

It is one of the three most expensive fish in Okinawa and is called “makubu” in Okinawa. It is a white fish without any peculiarities and is served as sashimi with the skin on. The skin is a little tough and does not go well with sushi rice. Nigiri sushi has no dark red meat (Chiai)  and looks unappealing, but it has a strong flavor and a pleasant aftertaste.
