Characteristics:

Roudi escolar (Kuroshibikamasu) is distributed along the Pacific coast of southern Japan and in tropical to temperate waters throughout the world. It lives at depths of 100~400m. The body length is 30~60 cm. It is a carnivorous fish with no scales and sharp teeth.

It is generally not very edible, but in Sagami Bay and the Izu Islands, it is commonly eaten grilled, dried, sashimi, sushi, etc. Its skin is black, but its flesh is pure white. When made into nigiri sushi, the refined flavor of the fat fills the mouth with its delicious taste.
