Longfin trevally (Yoroiaji) is widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, including the coastal areas of southern Japan (such as Suruga Bay, Okinawa Island and the Miyako Islands), Taiwan, the Gulf of Tonkin and the Andaman Sea. It inhabits reefs and coral reefs in waters less than 60 meters deep, but can also sometimes be seen in shallow bays. The body is strongly laterally compressed and has a high body height. The color of the back side is bluish, but the belly side is pure white. It is 30 cm long.
The flesh of Yoroiaji is firm and chewy, and it even tastes like a white fish. It also has a small amount of dark red meat (Chiai), which is beautiful to look at. It is delicious when made into sashimi, simmered fish, salt-grilled fish, or fried fish. It is not currently distributed because it is not caught in large quantities.
