Remarks: Saragai is the generic name for two species with the scientific names Megangulus venulosus (Schrenck, 1862) and Megangulus zyonoensis (Hatai and Nisiyama,1939). It is not as popular in the Kanto region because they do not have the distinctive flavor and bitterness of Round clam (Aoyagi). On the other hand, it is highly prized in Hokuriku and Hokkaido. Basically, it is boiled for a short time and used as sushi toppings.
