Feature:

Roughear scad (Oakamuro) is distributed south of central Honshu, the Indo-Pacific region, and the tropical Atlantic Ocean. It is found in a wide range of habitats, from shallow coastal waters to depths of about 400 m. Its body shape is similar to that of Amberstripe scad (Muroaji), but it has a red caudal fin. Its total length is about 40 cm. The season is summer.

Unlike other Muroaji species, it is not dried. It is sometimes served at local conveyor-belt sushi restaurants, but rarely at sushi restaurants in Tokyo. The flesh is bright red and has a silvery skin that is typical of bluefish, making it very appetizing. For condiments, ginger is better than wasabi.
